Next step Competition Culture in Europe: 23-25 september in Chęciny (Kielce), Poland – Architectuur Lokaal

The next step in the program Competition Culture in Europe will be the Conference on architectural competitions in Poland from 23 – 25 September. The meeting will take place in the European Centre for Geological Education Chęciny (near Kielce). This event, organized by Hubert Trammer of the Lublin University of Technology, is part of the agenda of the international network initiated by Architectuur Lokaal and A10 new European architecture Cooperative, to exchange experiences on competition culture in Europe.
In Chęciny seven examples of Polish competitions will be discussed. A10 correspondents present experiences from Albania, Italy, Lithuania, Spain and the United Kingdom. The foundation Architectuur Lokaal, The Netherlands, will clarify the two-stage design contest procedure that it had developed, with a limited and proportional scope of tasks in the first stage, which is very convenient for architects, clients, investors and local communities.

Program
The Polish conference aims, among others, to promote architectural competitions between the potentially interested persons like representatives of the local governments, and the presentation of the experience of the Kielce branch of the Society of Polish Architects SARP which organizes a lot of architectural competitions for different issues, scale of investments and investors.

Seven Polish competitions
The experiences from  seven Polish architectural competitions will be presented by the investors (institutions and the local authorities) and the architects , including the Italian architect of the Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre, Renato Rizzi. The seven competitions on the agenda are:

• European Centre for Geological Education, Chęciny (the place of the Conference)
• Transformed Market Square and Neighbouring Streets, Starachowice
• Castle Hill, Kielce (adaptation of the former prison, shared by Center for the Civic and Patriotic Thoughts and the Institute of Design)
• Katyń Museum, Warsaw
• Gdańsk Shakespeare Theatre, Gdańsk
• The Dialogue Centre Upheavals, Szczecin
• Public toilet, Kazimierz Dolny

Location: European Center for Geological Education, Chęciny
Excursion: 23 September: bustour along architectural competitions’ study areas in Kielce and Świętokrzyskie Region & walk along places related to architectural competitions in Kielce city centre. This conference will be bilingual (Polish and English) with simultaneous and consecutive interpreting.
